Standard 8 subject English grammar


 

There are 8 parts of speech in English

 Noun

 Pronoun

 Adjective

 Verb

 Adverb

 Preposition

  Conjunction

  Interjection


1) noun

‘ The names of common things are called nouns.’

 the name of a person and place are called noun

 the names of a number of people or things taken together.


 example: Ram, Raj, Krishna, Abdul, Radha,  Jenny, Ganga, India


2) pronoun

 a pronoun is a word  used for or instead of a noun


 example: I,  we, you,  he , she,  it , they  etc


3) adjective:

The word  which gives some special information of noun


 example:  good, bad,, short, tall, beautiful etc


4) Verb

 a verb is a word that denotes an action

  

 verbs tell about doing.  They Express action. Each sentence must contain a verb.  verbs match the subject in number( singular or plural) and may not have object


 A verb is a word that denotes   an action. it is derived from latin word’ verbum’= world


5)Adverb

 the word which add something( some new information) to the meaning of a verb, adjective or another adverb is called as adverb


 the word which tells us something more about a verb an adjective and  sometimes about an  adverb itself is called as adverb


 difference between adjective and adverb is that adjective tells information about noun and adverb tel information about verb

Example: slowly, sweetly, happily, etc


7) conjunction


 the word which is blessed before noun or pronoun to show in what relation the person or thing named by the noun pronoun stands in regards to something else is called as preposition


 example: by,  for, in, from, on, to,  near, with,  of, at, etc


8)  interjection

 an interjection is a word thrown into a sentence to express some strong feeling or emotion



 example:1) hush! The patient is sleep

2)oh! I have  misplaced my life
